Hulk Smash Avengers #1 Review
“By Banner Betrayed”
Hopefully you’ve gotten a chance to see the awesome new Avengers movie by now, so seeing more of the Hulk just seems like the right thing to do. I have a feeling Marvel knew this, so they punched out this 5 part mini series titled “Hulk Smash Avengers“. In this series the Avengers are tracking down the Hulk, not to stop him, or even, god forbid, go to fisticuffs with him, but to reel him back in as an ally. Things of course with the Hulk aren’t that easy and the team finds themselves in unfavorable situations.
My first complaint about the book, don’t be fooled by the great classic/vintage look of the cover. The fantastic cover art was actually done by “Lightning Quick” Lee Weeks and “Awesome” Andy Troy (I’m not making this up, that’s what they want to be called) and is incredibly deceiving since the books art is nothing even close to this style or caliber. The Hulk Smash Avengers #1 art is actually done by Pal Buscema and looks like something you would see for Saturday morning super hero cartoons. It’s not by any means a bad thing and it actually fits the younger audience I think this book is catering to. If you’re looking to pick up a more adult oriented Hulk/Avenger book, look elsewhere. Hulk Smash Avengers #1 has some recognizable villains, but with a cartoon art style and the constant reminder that Hulk can “leap miles” with every bound, it really only stands as a great introduction to the giant green angry scientist for the younger generation.
