Avenging Spider-Man #4 Review
Hawkeye Trains a Lot Apparently
Issue 4 of Avenging Spider-Man starts a new storyline involving one of his fellow Avengers, Hawkeye. If you’re interested in the previous 3 issues, Spidey teams up with the Red Hulk. I didn’t even know there was a Red Hulk. Does that soil some of my comic reviewing credibility? If it does, just ignore the whole part about me not knowing who the Red Hulk is. Kidding, kidding, I totally knew that the Red Hulk is Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the Air Force General who transforms into a meaner more gnarly Hulk. And no I didn’t just wikipedia the “Red Hulk” pffftt.
Back on topic, Captain America has put Spider-Man and Hawkeye on patrols around the city. In all honesty not until the last 4 pages of the book is there any real substantial action. But the start of this series isn’t about action, it’s about Spidey and Hawkeye’s interactions with each other. Spidey brings charm and a comedic tone to the book, while Hawkeye brings an unbridled confidence to the table. They have a great chemistry. The strength of the book lies within this relationship. Spider-man’s views on crime-fighting differs from Hawkeye’s, and Hawkeye shows his confidence is also his greatest weakness.
