Marvel NOW! starts…now, with Uncanny Avengers among other well known titles getting a few polishing touches. Rick Remender (Uncanny X-Force) and John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men) join forces as they attempt to assemble two powerhouse teams into one cohesive unit.
The Phoenix force has been dealt with for now, Scott Summers is imprisoned, Professor Xavier is dead, and cleaning up the mess left over has barely just begun. Captain America sees an opportunity to mend freshly opened wounds and knows he’ll need a natural leader on the mutant side, he believes Havok, Cyclops’ own brother, is that leader. Havok doesn’t have much time to think about Cap’s offer, as a new threat has already surfaced looking to drive a wedge between humans and mutants alike.
Does Uncanny Avengers live up to the hype? Kind of. The writing from Rick Remender is ok, but the books real strength lies in the story. The book does however, far surpass the sub par AvX: Consequences book. I understand Remender had to start somewhere, and I think when you see the villain he brings in, you’ll agree this book is going to skyrocket very soon, but for now the book is quickly tying up loose ends and preparing for something bigger.
