The Pro Review
The Pro, written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Amanda Conner was released as a trade back in 2004 and is now successfully into it’s sixth printing this year, thanks to it’s no holds bared parody of mainstream comic book heroes.
The Pro, also known as Lunar Lass when collaborating with The League of Honor, was just a foul mouthed street walking prostitute, both physically and verbally, before receiving super powers from an alien calling himself “The Viewer”. The Voyeur, I mean Viewer, is determined to prove that any human, no matter how vile, can become a hero. After The League is alerted to the existence of a new super hero, hilarity ensues as it’s obvious Lunar Lass is not meant to be the wholesome role model society and the other heroes expect.
Talent, that’s what The Pro brings to the table. I’m speaking about both the hooker, and the team of Ennis and Conner. The Pro’s talents lie more around debautury and the exploration of combining as many expletives and insults into a conflict as possible. Only Garth Ennis could make even Bob Saget blush with the amount of crude humor that’s in this book. It takes talent to make a reader laugh then immediately feel embarrassed even when they’re the only ones in the room. You’re not going to get many books with golden showers, a gauntlet of rear defilement, unforgiving language, and super hero ejaculate taking down a commercial airliner. The Pro isn’t for rookies, it’s for those tired of the cliche super heroes, and the others who are just plain effed up in head. Head down to Cosmic Comics! and #getyourfix of sex, drugs and rock & roll today.
