What’s up nerds? The Dork Knight is back with his latest movie review. I know you all know we love zombies here at Nerd Farm and the night before last I attended the World War Z 3D press screening at Brenden Theatres & IMAX at the Palms in Las Vegas with fellow nerdy movie reviewers from Nerdlocker (among others) and was pleasantly surprised with what I saw. I haven’t read World War Z by Max Brooks and other than the trailer below, I hadn’t seen any clips of the movie so I had pretty low expectations going into it (which is apparently good for a movie’s chances of me liking it I’m told). I rarely, if ever, enjoy 3D movies because of my big, dorky spectacles, but I really enjoyed this movie’s use of the 3D elements. There were a couple scenes where zombies (and yes, they actually refer to them as zombies in the movie) jump out at you and, let me tell ya, those scenes were awesome; they had me jumping out of my seat much to the amusement of those around me I’m sure (I wasn’t the only one though).
Check out the trailer below and I’ll finish sharing my thoughts on the other side.
Here’s a quick spoiler free synopsis: Brad Pitt‘s character is a retired UN Investigator who is called upon to help save the world by trying to figure out how the zombie infection started by finding patient zero in hopes of finding a cure or vaccine for the infection.
Just finished watching #worldwarz and thoroughly enjoyed it. On the edge of my seat (except for when zombies jumped at me). Great use of 3D!

The 3D in World War Z was subtle enough for me to forget that I was watching it in 3D which made the 3D that much more effective. If you go see this movie, I highly recommend that you do so in 3D. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat most of this movie until zombies would jump out at me putting me all the way back in my seat. The score complimented all of the suspenseful moments quite well and the CGI looks much better on the big screen than it does in the trailer.
This movie was a very suspenseful and satisfyingly smart horror (dare I call it that) flick that is a worthy addition to the zombie movie genre. My only gripe is that the ending felt more like a setup for a sequel than a real payoff, but I was so entertained that I didn’t mind that at all and actually look forward to seeing a sequel should they make one.
If we used a five star system, I’d give this one 4 out of 5, so check it out!
World War Z from Paramount Pictures is directed by Marc Forster and stars Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, and Matthew Fox. It releases this Friday, June 21, 2013.
