The Avengers vs X-Men story arc is officially over, the AvX Consequences book is mediocre and Marvel NOW! is almost in full swing. So what is A+X about? Can the two teams suddenly forget what just happened? Shake hands, hug, and then have cake? Marvel says yes.
A+X is in a universe of it’s own, a universe where continuity is not Marvel’s concern. All they want to see is two badass heroes get together and mess crap up, a “recipe for awesome” as they put it in the forward of the book. Captain America and Cable meet up to beat down a time traveling nerd, and Hulk and Wolverine fight themselves, who aren’t themselves, sent from the future, searching for Hulk, who isn’t the Hulk that Wolverine is teaming up with. Did you follow all that? Indeed.
The book being broken into two separate books makes each feel rushed and not long enough. Making recipe for awesome turn into recipe for neat and fun. Essentially that’s what the book comes down to, a few pages of your dream team match-ups getting together and “bro-ing” out. I enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong, I just want to see the team-ups together longer. The Hulk and Wolverine match-up felt like lightening striking, awesome bright light, loud crash, then it’s gone, with the damage done on the ground in a split second.
A fun book indeed and worth a read. I did make those rhyme on purpose fyi. You can read more reviews from Burke over at nerdfarmblog.com and be sure to get all the new Marvel NOW! books at Cosmic Comics! today!
