Dollar Bill #1 (One-Shot)
“I want to be in Pictures”
DC Comics’ “Before Watchmen”series isn’t known for it’s one-shots, and as far as I know, this is the only one. Hell, even Moloch got himself two issues. But, nevertheless Dollar Bill, the unlucky soul that he was, got himself at least one issue.
Len Wein, also writer of the impressive Ozymandius book, grabs hold of this sad story and manages to somehow make it bearable by the end with the help of Steve Rude’s artistic talents. Most people know how Dollar Bill’s life ends, but most don’t know how he got into the bank security business. The issue feels rushed, but I unfortunately couldn’t imagine it any longer either. I feel this story could have been implanted into another Before Watchmen book and the same goal would have been accomplished, tell the story of Dollar Bill. Forgettable character, and sadly, a forgettable book.
