Domino #1 Review
Let’s all celebrate Neena Thurman’s surprise birthday together in Domino #1! Gail Simone and David Baldeon bring lady luck back into the limelight with her own series! I don’t know about you guys but I can never get enough of her in my life.
In issue #1 Neena is back to her mercenary ways, teaming up with two other bombshells to lay the hurtin on some baddies. Much like the title of the post implies, there’s also a birthday celebration. DAZZLER PERFORMS! This is not a drill! Allow me to compose myself, It’s not a mutant party if that shit doesn’t get crashed by some type of villain and that’s exactly what happens. Que up the 60’s Batman overly enthusiastic narrator, “It looks like the house does always win! Has Domino’s luck finally run out? Tune in next week!” That’s the best I could do without spoiling too much.
When trying to give a powerful female hero her due, Gail Simone is the first writer that comes to mind, so Marvel has done Domino right in that respect. In all honesty, it feels a lot like Simone’s Batgirl, and that’s not a bad thing. Combine that with art from David Baldeon and you have a book that looks sharp, bold, and in your face. Sure there was a little too much explaining going on about what her mutant power actually “is” but, first time readers may not exactly know Domino.
Take a gamble on Domino #1, luck may also be on your side. I’m not apologizing for the puns.
