Lumberjanes #1 review
Popular web comic writer Noelle Stevenson teams up with Brooke Allen to bring the campy Lumberjanes #1 to Boom! Box. Honestly I’ve never heard of any of the people or publisher I just listed, these are all new to me, but if you’re a fan of Noelle Stevenson, then you’ve probably been impatiently waiting Lumberjanes #1‘s arrival.
Lumberjanes #1 follows a rambunctious group of girl scouts during their time at Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types (I think that’s the full name). Fortunately this isn’t your normal summer camp and happenings here span more on the side of mythical beings than Barbie fiction.
There’s a lot I could talk about for Lumberjanes #1, that is, if I was a tween. I wish I could see just how much tweens would like this book. I can say this though, if I was a young woman who was into comics, I would enjoy the crap out of this fun campy book. It’s actually a really, really fun book. A bunch of scouts tackle and cuddle 3 eyed foxes after searching for a bearwoman, each character is very different and compliments each other somehow in someway, and the Brooke Allen art would draw in any Adventure Time lover.
I would imagine the audience for Lumberjanes would be quite small, but I’ve been wrong many times, what Lumberjanes #1 has is a niche book. It has the potential to grab a large group following, a large group of tweens (or adults) looking for an indie book with its own strong identity.
Sorry to be a broken record, but another fun thing about this book, you can tell Noelle Stevenson and Grace Ellis put a lot of thought and love into this book, the back cover has a sash that I’d assume will have a badge each scout will earn in the next following books. How cool is that?
