Moloch the Mystic #1 Review
“Forgive Me, Father, For I Have Sinned”
DC Comics is pumping out a ton of “Before Watchmen” books, and not all of them are the heroes you would expect to see. No, it seems they’ve wandered into unwritten territory, dove head first into one of Watchmen’s most notorious villains, Moloch the Mystic.
Sure you got to see Moloch in Alan Moore’s Watchmen, but you only got to see his feeble cancer ridden character. Didn’t you ever wonder what he was like in his hay day? Yeah, me neither, but J. Michael Straczynski wanted to assure you Moloch was a formidable foe for the Minutemen. By formidable I mean they always caught him and he always escaped from prison.
Unfortunately Moloch is written by J. Michael Straczynski who also wrote the Nite Owl and Dr. Manhattan books, both of which I didn’t care too much for. Sadly, Moloch kind of get’s thrown into that bunch. The book was very interesting though, just lacked shock factor I guess. Match that with only decent art from Eduardo Risso, and you have a book that’s going to have a difficult time keeping my attention. That’s probably why their only making it a two part miniseries. I think the best thing to come from the book was to know Moloch the Mystic was quite the pimp back in the day. Elves usually are though…
