Far Sector #1 Review
Alrighty kiddos, we’ve moved on from the X book reviews. Feels like it’s been a long time since we reviewed some DC books amirite? At least one that doesn’t include Batman or Superman anyway. Although I’m enjoying the hell out of Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olson. Happy to say some Green Lantern love is coming your way thanks to Far Sector, and it’s a Young Animal book no less.
I’ve been hearing good things about the Green Lantern books lately. I say this because I haven’t actually been reading them buuut, Far Sector may be changing that. Described as a sci-fi murder mystery, Green Lantern Mullein is tasked with tracking down a killer in a system that hasn’t seen a violent crime in hundreds of years. The council she’s assisting are obviously concerned as the politics here could be more dangerous than the crime itself.
A futuristic crime drama from the mind of N. K. Jemisin, Far Sector is a hyper stylized Blade Runner meets True Detective thanks to the art by Jamal Campbell of the highly reviewed Naomi. It’s gorgeous to look at and very easy to read. Nothing seems excessive and everything feels purposeful. Keep your eyes out for clues and don’t rule anyone out as a suspect in this 12 issue maxiseries. Just stay out of Lantern Mullein’s way.
