Sabrina #1 review
Everyone’s favorite teenage witch finally gets her own ongoing series in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #1. Don’t be fooled though, this isn’t your sweet and funny girl next door portrayed by Melissa Joan Hart in the Sabrina The Teenage Witch sitcom of the early 2000’s, this is a much darker Sabrina stemming from the pages of Afterlife with Archie.
While there’s no literal connection to the phenomenal Afterlife With Archie comic book yet, Sabrina #1‘s story, also written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, does end up in the sunny town of Greendale. Those of you that have had the pleasure of reading Afterlife With Archie will understand the significance of Sabrina’s character, but Sabrina #1 isn’t a bad place to start as the story starts from Sabrina’s earliest beginnings up to her notable teenage years.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #1 is dark, boding, and surprisingly polite despite Sabrina’s aunts being some of the more wicked witches of their coven. You pair Aguirre-Sacasa’s story with Robert Hack’s art and your transformed into the classic Tales from the Crypt, Chilling Mysteries, and Strange Tales books of old. Sabrina #1 is full of fantastic deep and boding storytelling, you don’t want to believe what you’re going to read next, but you just know deep in your gut that anything is possible. Look towards Sabrina #1 opening up some can of worms at it moves closer and closer to connecting to the Afterlife with Archie series.
