What is evil? What is ultimately good? Can there be absolute evil without good? These were all questions that ran through my head as I read through the pages of DC Comics new Forever Evil book from Geoff Johns.
Divulging too much into the stories plot would reveal huge spoilers, so just know that the famed heroes of the DC universe are suspiciously missing or killed, and a band of world destroyers known as the Crime Syndicate is taking all the credit. My unfamiliarity with DC’s large library of villains leaves this group shrouded in deep mystery for me, I don’t know who they are or what they’re about. All I know is the anti-Superman, not to be confused with Bizarro, snorts kryptonite and hates the sun, so there’s that.
As well as the book is written, which is to be expected from Geoff Johns, I liked how much it made me think about deeper meanings. When you reach the end of the first book, you really wonder how bad some of the villains are. Is the Crime Syndicate so terrible that even DC’s worst baddies will rise up and turn good? But better yet, and a question asked throughout the book, where are the Justice League?
