Tooth and Claw #1 review
In the back of Tooth and Claw #1, its writer Kurt Busiek has a funny little piece where he’s interacting with his creative team for the first time describing Tooth and Claw as a “sprawling fantasy series about animal people”. He would love to divulge more information and you can hear his excitement in wanting to describe this magical world, but the whole team is completely “in” on the project after only hearing “animal people”. That’s exactly where I stood when I opened the first few pages of Tooth and Claw #1.
While Tooth and Claw #1 is far more than just animal people, as Busiek so wants to express, there’s also wizards and legendary heroes. So you have this whole animal people thing going on and then their wizards, it’s pretty effing amazing in theory, luckily for Busiek he also chose artist Ben Dewey and the all important colors of Jordie Bellaire of Moon Knight and Pretty Deadly. You could be asking, “who the heck is Ben Dewey?” yeah, so I was asking the same question and the internet wasn’t any help in that department either, just recognize that his art fits Tooth and Claw perfectly.
So we’ve covered the whole animal people which is cool, wizards which is cooler, prefect detailed art, legendary writing, unworldly inks, and a double thick book that’s free of any ads (seriously, no ads). Sooooo, I’m kind of saying Tooth and Claw #1 is a book you need to read if you like all of those things, and we should maybe be best friends for liking all the same stuff.
