Every year on Christmas Eve, my mother has, without fail, presented me with a special pair of Christmas Pajamas. The first time I remember receiving a pair, I was maybe four or five. Presents set under the tree in the corner of a tiny, basement apartment; and a small box with my name written in large letters sitting in the very front. I had been eying the gift for several days, my imagination whirling with marvelous inventions about what might be in that box. Finally, at ten o’clock on Christmas Eve, my parents called me to the Christmas Tree. My father held the box while my mother explained that Santa would allow me to open a single gift before entering our house with his magic key to deliver gifts later that night (apartments rarely have chimneys). I opened the box to reveal a pretty flannel nightgown, which my parents explained was the real secret to Santa’s magic. The nightgown, sewn in a special workshop by Santa’s Elves, was made with North Pole Magic, and was the only way to be certain that I would sleep soundly enough for Santa to visit our home. That was all the convincing it took for me to hop straight into that nightgown and demand to be tucked-in post-haste!
Each year the tradition continues with my family, as I’m sure it does with many of yours. This year, I bought my mom a pair of magic Christmas Pajamas with her favorite superhero of all time: Wonder Woman!
