Star Wars Darth Vader #1. Sith Failure.

Marvel continues to put it’s partnership/ownership of the Star Wars franchise in high gear with the newest Darth Vader #1.

Coming in hot off the heals of A New Hope, Darth Vader #1 lets you see Vader at his lowest. With the destruction of the Death Star and his failure to capture the rebels responsible, Vader is on the Emperors shit list. Still, Darth Vader defies the Emperors orders, employing bounty hunter scum in search of one important rebel, Luke Skywalker.

darth vader #1,marvel comics, star wars, cosmic comicsI rather enjoyed Darth Vader #1, it was very interesting to see “the other side” of the movies. Kieron Gillen shows a defeated Vader rather than a victorious rebel gang. You see Vader’s anger, his arrogance, but also his tactical intelligence. He’s a Sith through and through, he takes orders without question but goes through other avenues to get further answers. Darth Vader is dangerous, I think it’s shown in the films and other books, but seeing this side shows that he really is a force to be reckoned with.

darth vader #1,star wars, marvel comics, cosmic comicsThere was only one small problem I had with Darth Vader #1 and it really only comes from me being such a Star Wars and bounty hunter geek. **Warning, spoilers ahead, tread carefully** At the end of the book Vader hires Boba Fett to find and capture Luke, there’s no problem here, but the issue comes with who Fett is associating with as a partner, a wookie. Any Boba Fett buff would know that Boba Fett hunts wookies, he has their braided hair as trophies dangling from his cape, and his iconic ship Slave 1 is named after enslaving wookies for cripes sake. I scoured the wookiepedia for anything that said otherwise and came up short. I guess to the untrained eye this is nothing, and it’s barely a reason to not enjoy Darth Vader #1.
